I first arrived in Puerto Vallarta in July 2024, just after completing trauma release healing training. I had been invited to share this work with a small group, and I stepped off the plane feeling open, tender, and curious. I didn’t expect the city itself to hold me the way it did.
The first thing I remember is the air—warm, soft, and lightly salted by the ocean. The mountains rose dramatically behind the coastline, lush and alive, as if standing guard over the bay. It took my breath away. I’m from Newfoundland on the east coast of Canada, where cliffs meet the Atlantic, and something about being surrounded by both mountains and sea felt instantly familiar. But here, everything shimmered in tropical light.
Mornings began with sunrise on the beach. The sky slowly bloomed from deep indigo to blush pink to molten gold, the waves rolling in with a steady rhythm that felt like a heartbeat. Walking barefoot along the shoreline, the sand cool beneath my feet, I felt my whole body soften in a way I hadn’t realized it needed.
Days unfolded slowly: gentle movement, fresh fruit and strong coffee, laughter shared with friends, the scent of grilled seafood drifting through the warm air, music playing somewhere nearby. Evenings brought sunsets so vivid they felt almost unreal, the sky washed in coral and fire as the ocean reflected every color back.
There is a warmth in Puerto Vallarta that goes beyond the climate. The people carry it. Strangers greet you with ease. Familiar faces welcome you back as if no time has passed. With each visit, I meet beautiful souls who leave an imprint on my heart.
The city offers culture, variety, and a sense of safety that allows you to exhale. You can wander without urgency, dream of waterfalls and hidden islands waiting just beyond the horizon, and let time stretch in a way that feels generous.
I’ve visited twice now and am planning my third trip this March. Each return feels less like travel and more like coming home.
Puerto Vallarta is where the mountains meet the sea—and where something inside me feels deeply at peace.
