It’s Sunday evening at Playa Conchas Chinas, and Sunset Beach Dance is about to begin. The heat of the day is starting to soften, the sky is turning gold, and a group of people are slipping off their shoes and pressing their feet into the sand. Some came in bathing suits. Some came in sequins. Some brought their kids. Some came alone, looking for something they couldn’t quite name.
Each of them puts on a pair of wireless headphones, closes their eyes, lets the music in, and for a moment… forgets about everything else. How they got there, what they did today, what they have to do tomorrow. Nothing else exists — just the sand, the ocean, and a beach full of people dancing to music only they can hear.
What happens next is something you have to witness yourself to fully understand.
How It Began
Before Puerto Vallarta, there was Colombia.
I lived there for four years, on a beautiful piece of land in the mountains, and I started hosting ecstatic dances at my home. It was a way for me to meet new people and invite people into my world, through my language, which is dance and music. Something beautiful kept happening. Strangers became friends. Friends became family. And I fell completely in love with how movement and music naturally opens people.
At the same time, I was deep in my studies of Quantum Human Design and had spent years practicing qigong. These worlds started weaving together in my mind and in my body. The flow, the energy, the intention behind movement. I called it FlowQi.
Then one day I went to a silent disco experience and saw the headphones. And something clicked.
That’s the missing key, I thought. This is what allows me to take this experience anywhere, to a mountaintop, to a rooftop, to a beach, without disturbing anyone. Without losing the intimacy. Without breaking the spell of nature around us.
FlowQi Experiences were born. And when I arrived in Puerto Vallarta, I brought them with me.
Why the Beach, Why the Sunset
I hosted my first Sunset Beach Dance in Puerto Vallarta in November 2025, and something about this place, the people, the ocean just made sense in a way that was almost impossible to explain.
The experience has a natural arc that the beach gives us for free. We arrive. We take our shoes off and press our feet into the sand. We feel the ocean breeze, the heat of the sun, the waves moving beside us. And then we dance freely, in our own world, guided by music, until the sun disappears below the horizon.
The dance ends when the sun sets. Every time.
There is something about that boundary, that natural closing, that does something to people. The ocean doesn’t care what kind of week you had. The sunset doesn’t wait. And somehow, dancing inside that, inside something so much bigger than your to-do list, reminds your body that this is the most important thing you’ve done all week.
Who Shows Up and Why
People come to Sunset Beach Dance for all kinds of reasons.
Some are looking for a sober, feel-good experience. No alcohol, no cigarette smoke, no club energy. Just music, movement, and fresh air. Muy chido.
Some come because they want to dance in nature without being inside a dark room with flashing lights. Some come because they have kids and want something the whole family can actually enjoy together. Some come simply out of curiosity. They saw a post, it looked different, they decided to try.
And this is one of the things I love most about this community: you don’t have to edit yourself before you walk in. Come in your bathing suit. Come in a wild outfit. Come as you are, exactly as you are. This space is open to everyone, all ages, all bodies, all genders, queer friendly, family friendly. Authentic self-expression isn’t just welcome here, it’s the whole point.
What Actually Happens
Here’s what I’ve learned after doing this, dance after dance.
People arrive thinking they’re coming for the practical reasons. The sober party, the ocean air, something fun to do on a Sunday. And then something else happens entirely.
Every single dance, without fail, there are at least a few people that touch my heart. I’ll look out and see someone gazing at the horizon, arms open, heart open, tears running quietly down their face. There is a palpable gratitude in those moments, a feeling that moves through all of us at once, a shared recognition of how beautiful it is to simply be alive, together, here. And in that moment I feel so deeply honored to be able to create these spaces where people can connect, with the ocean, with the music, with themselves, with each other, in this way.
That’s not something I can put in a ticket description. It’s something that happens when the conditions are right. Sand beneath your feet. Ocean breeze. Music in your ears that no one else can hear. And a community around you that isn’t judging a single move you make.
A Growing Familia
Since that first dance in November 2025, Sunset Beach Dance has found its home here in Puerto Vallarta, gathering every other Sunday without fail, and what it has quietly become is something I didn’t plan but am endlessly grateful for.
We have regulars who come to every dance. And we have new faces at every dance. That combination, the roots and the openness, is what makes it feel less like an event and more like a familia. A soul family that finds each other on a beach at sunset and dances together until the light is gone.
If you’ve been curious, this is your invitation. Come take your shoes off, feel the sand, and let the music move you. Sunset Beach Dance happens every other Sunday, and our Inner Garden Dances are happening too — you’ll find the next dates on the events page.
The ocean will do the rest.
